The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger Over Size Changes

Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.

Digital Channels Backlash

Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.

Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.

The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.

Sizing System Modifications

Previously, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

User Experiences

One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.

Necessary Adjustments

Another shopper, located in England, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".

"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.

Platform Context

The app has more than 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
