The accused confessed to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on Friday

A person who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the location in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.

She stated Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.

She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
